A Celebration of Giving Honours Edmonton Charities

More than 270 Edmonton charities to receive more than $1 million from TELUS and its team members.

Edmonton, AB – Edmonton charities will be honoured this evening at the third annual TELUS Celebration of Giving. Tonight, we focus on the amazing people and their organizations who work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of those in our community who need help the most.



TELUS and its team members will donate more than $1 million to more than 270 Edmonton charities this year through the TELUS Employee Charitable Giving program. The TELUS Employee Charitable Giving program matches team member contributions to eligible charities dollar for dollar.



Overall, TELUS will give more than $6.9 million to local charities and non-profit organizations in Edmonton in 2010 through the TELUS Edmonton Community Board, Employee Charitable Giving, TELUS Community Ambassadors, local corporate donations and sponsorships.



“TELUS has a promise, to give where we live, and our Celebration of Giving is one way we demonstrate how we fulfill that promise,” said Dr. Bob Westbury, Chair of the TELUS Edmonton Community Board. “The Celebration of Giving really gives us the chance to show our charity partners here in Edmonton that what they are doing makes a difference. Their commitment to making Edmonton a better community for us all has not gone unnoticed and it is greatly appreciated and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”



Nearly 20 local charities in attendance, including Special Olympics Edmonton, the Youth Emergency Shelter Society, and the Edmonton Humane Society will be recognized for their vital contributions to the fabric of Edmonton. Not only will those charities be thanked publicly, they will be presented with cheques from the TELUS family of team members, Community Ambassadors and TELUS Edmonton Community Board members symbolizing their commitment to the community.



Through TELUS Employee Charitable Giving, TELUS team members and retirees can choose to make a donation through payroll and pension deduction at TELUS to 48,000 eligible registered Canadian charities. TELUS then matches donations to these charities dollar for dollar. In 2009, TELUS employees and retirees donated $7.1 million to more than 2900 charities across Canada.
