TELUS is proud to be a gold level sponsor of the 2010 Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival!

Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Pride Society is pleased to announce TELUS as a gold level sponsor of the 2010 Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival, Vancouver's premier celebration of diversity. As title sponsor of the Davie Street Dance Party, TELUS will help kick-off Pride Week on July 30 in the heart of the West End.
“The Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival inspires and empowers Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) communities worldwide, in countries where many members must continue to fight for their human rights,” says Ken Coolen, president of the Vancouver Pride Society. “More than 600,000 members and supporters of the LGBT community participated in last year's parade, and without the support of sponsors like TELUS, first-class events that the Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival has become known for would not be possible.”
Understanding that to do well in business a company must do good in the community, TELUS has contributed over $950,000 to LGBT organizations throughout Canada since 2000.
“At TELUS we value the diversity of our team members and our customers,” says Jill Schnarr, vice-president, TELUS Community Affairs. “We are also proud to give where we live. In addition to our involvement with Pride Week events, TELUS will be donating $100 to the Vancouver Pride Society for each new Optik TV subscriber in Vancouver who signs up between July 30 and August 6.”
TELUS has demonstrated support for the LGBT community beyond corporate giving initiatives. In April 2010, the company was recognized as one of the Canada's Best Diversity Employers, for the second year in a row. Through the creation of Spectrum, an employee resource group for LGBT team members, and a partnership with Pride@Work, TELUS strives to deliver on its promise of being a company where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
The Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival begins at noon on Sunday, August 1st at Robson and Thurlow and finishes at the Sunset Beach Festival Site.
